A heated swimming pool is the ultimate luxury addition to your Dordogne property! Pools between 10m² and 100m² require ‘une declaration préalable’ i.e. you submit a plan of the pool’s location, size, type and finish to the Mairie (Town Hall) and if no objections are raised within a month you can go ahead. Pools over 100m² require full building permission. Some Mairies frown on bright blue pools and insist on a more natural colour. Pool safety is inspected as part of the ‘diagnostics’ pack of a house sale; legally there should either be an enclosure with a safety gate, a pool alarm (usually motion sensor) a canopy or a rigid cover strong enough to support the weight of a five-year-old child.
